Killington Opens
Killington Opens

Killington ski area in Vermont is scheduled to open for the season just about now after a weekend snow storm in New England boosted snow cover at the resort famous for its snowmaking and resulting long ski season.
Killington will be the second ski area to open for 16-17 in the US (and indeed North America) following the opening of Arapahoe Basin, one of the world's highest ski areas, in Colorado last Friday.
The Stowe in Eastern North America was widely welcomed, particular coming a month ahead of the main ski season starting around the late November thanksgiving holiday, and a challenging winter 15-16 a year ago for some resorts in the region.
Most areas reported weekend snowfall, the biggest total claimed by Stowe Mountain Resort in Vermont which said 11 inches fell according to their measuring stick.
Social media pictures also showed some brave soul hiked up to get first turns at another Vermont ski area, Jay Peak Resort.
More ski areas including Loveland and Keystone are expected to open in the next week or two in Colorado and the first in Alberta, north of the border in Canada, in the first week of November, but there's now a 'warm snap' in the Rockies which may prove problematic for snowmaking.
