Up to 50cm of Snow in 24 Hours in Southern Alps

Ski areas in the Southern Alps have been reporting big snowfall totals over the past 24 hours.
Resorts in the southern French Alps have posted some of the biggest snowfalls – up to 50cm in the past 24 hours – but some ski areas in Western Italy and Switzerland have posted up to 30cm of snowfall in the same period too.
Among the ski areas posting 50cm accumulations since yesterday are Serre Chevalier and Val d'Allos.
Montgenevre on the Italian border posted a 45cm total, as did Puy St Vincent and Sauze Super Sauze, 15cm more that Bardonecchia over on the Italian side. In Switzerland Verbier posted the biggest accumulation so far with 25cm there in the last 24 hours.
French resorts reporting 30cm (a foot) of fresh snow included Auron, Orcieres and Les Orres. Superdovluy, which reports 40cm of fresh snow, is pictured above.
The snow follows similar accumulations earlier this week and last week at some of the same resorts in the southern French alps and in Piedmont in Italy.
The snowfall is expected to continue falling in to Friday with a little on Saturday too but expected big snowfalls for resorts like Chamonix and Val d'Isere have been downgraded somewhat in the past 24 hours.
