Snowy Easter Ahoy

It's looking like an increasingly snowy Easter weekend and start of April in the Alps.
Unusually, there's little sign of spring and bases are still building as ski seasons reach their final week at many resorts.
Thursday saw dozens of powder alarms issued by ski resorts across the Alps, particularly in the West, with resorts reporting 20 – 30m of fresh snow in the 24 hours since Wednesday.
Champery, Engelberg, Saas Fee, Tignes were among the ski areas issuing powder alarms, for more than 20cm of fresh snow in 24 hours, but most resorts have had significant snowfall.
Tignes (pictured above just before the latest snowfall started) had in fact issued a powder alarm for the previous 24 hours too – so a total of 45cm (18 inches) in 48 hours.
Forecasters expect it to keep snowing right through the Easter weekend however with some resorts further East looking set to receive their biggest falls on Saturday or Easter Sunday itself.
Resorts in Austria like Obergurgl are expected to get their biggest snowfalls on Friday – Saturday, about 30cm is expected here too.
In fact forecasters currently expect 30-40cm of fresh snow over the Easter weekend in the Dolomites, as well as up to 30cm of snow in the Pyrenees, along with more snowfall in the Alps.
