New Bozel to Courchevel Gondola gets approval

New Bozel to Courchevel Gondola gets approval

Published : 23-Mar-2022 08:58

After many years under discussion, it looks like the proposed lift from Bozel to Courchevel will happen at last.

The local authorities have put out the construction of a new gondola, that will start in the valley town of Bozel and take skiers - and workers - to Courchevel 1550.

The new lift will put Bozel on the map. Currently most skiers are unaware of this town, on a similar altitude to Moutiers and Brides Les Bains. It is mainly populated by season workers who cannot afford to live further up the mountain in the main ski resorts.

A key rationale for the new lift is to reduce the number of cars that take the journey up the main road on a daily basis. At least 600 cars per day commute from Bozel. Allied to the 5000 tourist vehicles the local community hope this will improve air quality and boost the economy in Bozel.

The cost of the project will be €17 million but there is currently no predicted date for completion.
