Folkestone Ski Slope Moves Closer To Reopening After 2+ Years

The dry ski slope at Folkestone, which has been closed for more than two years, could soon welcome visitors once again after plans were announced to restore the long-established facility.
The slope has been closed since July 2024 when Folkestone Sports Centre ceased operations following the administration of its previous owners. Now, the centre's current owner, The Sports Trust, has revealed a partnership with outdoor activity specialist Boonies Outdoors aimed at bringing the facilities back into use.
Boonies Outdoors, which has operated from Betteshanger Country Park for the past nine years, intends to relocate to Folkestone and invest in the site's future.
Jay Ingram, founder and director of Boonies Outdoors, said the opportunity to revive the facilities was one the company was eager to embrace.
"The opportunity to breathe new life into the ski slope …alongside developing plans for a new outdoor adventure and obstacle course facility, is something we're incredibly passionate about," he told the BBC adding: "We're looking forward to working closely with The Sports Trust to create something truly special for Folkestone and the wider community."
The Folkestone ski slope has a more than 50-year history as one of southeast England's notable artificial skiing venues. For decades it introduced local residents to skiing and snowboarding, and offering a chance to ski or board year-round. It was mostly revamped and re-opened in 2020-21 and reopened by Michael "Eddie-The-Eagle" Edwards.
While no date has yet been announced for the reopening of the slope, the facility is expected to operate independently from the main sports centre moving forward.
