Brexit Vote Pushes Daily Lift Pass Price Past £150 For Brits in Colorado

Published : 28-Dec-2016 08:07

The already high cost of a one day lift pass bought at some resorts in Colorado over the peak New Year holiday period has passed the £150 mark for the first time for Brits due in part to the devaluation of the pound following the vote for Brexit.

A one day adult pass at Beaver Creek and Vail in Colorado is currently being advertised at $189 (£154) for New Year's day 2017, if skiers arrive in resort without a ticket and buy a day pass at the ticket window. Buying online in advance brings the price down by $10 ( £8 ).

In fact measured from its base below sea level it is twice as high again at around 7500m, the third biggest of its kind behind two volcanos in Hawaii.

Snow In Scotland – But Will It Allow Areas To Open?

Published : 21-Dec-2016 04:09

After a warm and snowless month in Scotland, which saw existing snow cover melt away right up to the mountain summits, it has begun snowing again in Scotland today.

All five mountain resorts in the Scottish Highlands are reporting top to bottom snow today, but bases still need to build and strong winds and another wave or warm temperatures are on the horizon, possibly hampering progress.

Les Arcs Snow in Pictures - 15th December 2016

Published : 16-Dec-2016 09:26

We've been in Tignes this week, but took a day-trip to Les Arcs yesterday to check out the snow.

In summary :-

The Arc 1950/2000 bowl has lovely snow on-piste. There's thinner cover off-piste than the same time last year, at least on any sun/wind exposed slopes BUT the pistes are in great shape and Les Arcs are clearly doing a great job keeping the surface fresh with overnight grooming and top-ups from cannons. Most (all?) of the Black runs are closed, although some are being skied regardless, and some sectors (e.g. Grand Col) and lifts are not yet open.

New Quad Chairlift Planned for Scottish Ski Centre

Published : 16-Dec-2016 07:22

Scotland may get its second quad chairlift – around 25 years after the first one was installed – if plans put forward to a local council by Glenshee ski centre get the go ahead.

Most of the existing ski lifts in Scotland are drag lifts dating from the 1960s or 1970s, although that's not the case at Nevis Range which opened in the early 1990s with the country's only gondola lift and so far it's only quad chairlift.
