New Cortina Gondola

Italy's Cortina d'Ampezzo is about to unveil a brand-new lift this winter, promising faster access to its famed ski areas and a smoother start to the winter season.
The newly lift begins at 1,334 metres above sea level and rises to 1,558 metres, covering an altitude difference of 224 metres in under four minutes. With 53 cabins seating 10 passengers each and a maximum capacity of 3,000 people per hour, the installation is designed to cut waiting times and maximise time on the slopes. Skiers will now enjoy quicker connections to the Tofane and Ra Valles ski areas, as well as the scenic Cinque Torri, making the resort's terrain more accessible than ever.

Merthyr Tydfil indoor ski slope would be longest in the UK

[b]Plans for a £300 million leisure resort in Merthyr Tydfil have been backed by councillors, paving the way for what could be the UK's longest indoor ski slope.
The project, known as 'Rhydycar West', includes a snow centre, with a 400m slope.

Heavy Snowfall in the Alps

There's been heavy snowfall in the Alps over the past few days with total accumulations of up to 70cm reported so far. The intensity of the snowfall led to some road closures, including in the Chamonix Valley.
Around 30 ski areas are already open for the 25-26 season and its's mostly these that are posting their snowfall data, but the biggest totals for snowfall over the weekend and start of this week have come from resorts opening in the next few weeks, including Courchevel (70cm), Crans Montana (60cm) and Alpe d'Huez (50cm).

Scottish Ski Centres Open Early For 25-26 Season

A week of cold temperatures and snowfall has led to the early opening of Cairngorm ski area above Aviemore, with Glencoe also reporting snowmaking underway and offering lift service snowsports on its dry slope.
Cairngorm opened unexpectedly on Thursday after recording around 20cm fresh snow during the day. Thanks to the funicular returning to service the centre currently has a marked run from Ptarmigan Top Station down to the funicular middle station via the Traverse, 105 and Zig Zags with uplift via the Funicular Railway only, opening from 10am. At the top the Polar Express Poma serving limited beginner terrain is also open.

New Linga Chairlift to open in Châtel for winter 2025–26

[b]Châtel ski resort (pictured yesterday above) in the Portes du Soleil is set to debut a brand-new six-seater chairlift in its Linga sector for the 2025–26 winter season, replacing a decades-old gondola and promising faster access to the mountain.
The new detachable chairlift is scheduled to open next month in December 2025. It will dramatically increase uphill capacity from 2,230 skiers and snowboarders per hour to 3,000 per hour and reduce the journey time to five minutes.

Sölden Leads World With 60km Of Slopes Open Already

With the number of ski areas already open for the 25-26 season set to pass 50 in nine countries this weekend, Austria's Sölden is currently leading the way in terms of terrain available already, hitting 60km of slopes available this week.
Most early opening ski area have less than 5% of their slopes open so far, but Sölden, which is already nearly two months into its 25-26 season, is at more than 40%.

Mont Blanc tunnel in Chamonix may close for three years

The French and Italian authorities are currently weighing up options for necessary repairs to the Mont Blanc tunnel, which connects Chamonix with the Aosta Valley in Italy.
First opened in 1965, the 11.6km tunnel needs a refurbishment over six kilometres to ensure driver safety.

The Snow Centre and SnowWorld combine to become Europe’s leading indoor Snowsport operator

The Snow Centre in the UK and SnowWorld, the leading European indoor slopes operator, have merged.
The two companies will now operate 12 sites across five countries (Netherlands, UK, Germany, Belgium and France) and welcome over 4.5 million visitors annually, generating more than £100 million in revenue. The group will employ more than 1000 full-time team members.

Tignes Completes High-Speed Access to Iconic Aiguille Percée

Skiers heading to Tignes this winter can look forward to faster, smoother access to one of the resort's most legendary sectors, thanks to the launch of a new detachable 6-seater chairlift at L'Aiguille Percée.
Travelling at 6 metres per second and capable of transporting up to 2,800 skiers per hour, the lift marks a major upgrade to the Tignes le Lac and Tignes les Brévières sectors. It completes the transformation of the lift network in this area, following the replacement of the Marais chairlift in 2025.

‘Snowtunnel’ could bring guaranteed urban year-round skiing

Australia could soon become home to the world's first rotating indoor snow tunnel — a groundbreaking project promising year-round skiing and snowboarding in urban settings.
The concept, called 'Snowtunnel', reimagines how skiers might experience snow sports. Instead of a long downhill slope, it uses a massive rotating cylinder coated in real snow that continuously moves beneath riders, theoretically creating an 'endless mountain.'

Switzerland Overtakes Austria To Report Most Open Areas in World

Switzerland has overtaken Austria to become the country with the most ski areas open in the world at present – although its lead is expected to be short lived.
After ski areas at southern hemisphere nations began to close down in late September and seven Austrian glacier ski areas opened Austria was reporting the most ski areas through October and the start of this month.

Peak Performance create Snow Rail Jam in London

[b]Last weekend, Swedish clothing brand Peak Peformance teamed up with pro freeskier Max Palm to transform the White Grounds skate park in London into a dedicated snow park – with dramatic results.
The space beneath the railway arches near London Bridge was covered with 30 tonnes of real snow and a custom rail and wall-ride set up. Skiers were pulled by a motorised winch into kickers to allow them to show off their tricks.

Scotland's Glencoe Mountain Resort not only has great snow slopes in winter, but it also has a dry slope which was upgraded earlier this year.
Depending on need, and the time of year, the slope is used for tubing, sledging and ski lessons and this November and early December, the centre is running pre-snow-season learn to Ski and Snowboard weekends on the slope.

Kitzbühel Kicks Off Winter Season Tomorrow

Kitzbühel opens for skiing tomorrow, November 7th, the first non-glacier ski area to open in the country.
For some years now, the resort's KitzSki lift company has opened a few kilometres of terrain on some of the resort's highest slopes at Resterkogel, using snow farming – snow piled up last spring, stockpiled under cover through summer than spread back out on the slopes in the autumn as things cool, to open a run. The resort has also had some natural snowfall in late October.

Lake Louise Second Canadian Area to Start Season Early, Today

Lake Louise is set to become the second Canadian area to start its season early, later today.
The world famous resort, which for many years hosted the opening World Cup speed races of the annual tour in late November, had been set to be the first in the country to open, this Friday. However it's Banff neighbour Sunshine, which had planned to open this coming Saturday, instead opened nearly a week early, 48 hours ago, to claim the coveted 'first to open in Canada' title.

Canada’s Season Starting Sunday

Banff's Sunshine ski area has announced that it will open for its 25-26 season early, tomorrow, Sunday 2nd November. Barring some other area sneaking in before them, it will be the first to open in Canada for the new season.
"Yep, you read that right- tomorrow (Sunday November 2nd) we'll be the first resort in Canada to open for the 2025/26 ski and snowboard season! To our organization's knowledge this is our earliest opening ever!" an online statement from the centre earlier today noted, immediately starting a fierce social media debate as to whether Sunshine has ever opened before November 2nd before.
