Big Snow Storms Due To Hit Europe

A major snowstorm that's expected to bring up to a metre of snow to parts of the Alps is imminent, according to forecasters.
After a comparatively dry week, Chamonix has reported the biggest accumulation of the past 24 hours, reporting a foot of fresh snow on upper slopes since yesterday. Some forecasts predict it is one of those set to see the biggest snow accumulations in the coming few days.
Val d'Isere reported 12cm of snow overnight, La Plagne, Verbier and Zermatt 10cm a piece.
However it was a return to clear skies and sunny weather for many areas today, including Chamonix, pictured above by a webcam this morning.
What is perhaps most interesting about the forecast snow is that it looks set to bring heavy snow to parts of Europe that have largely missed out on previous big storms over the past two months.
These include the Italian Dolomites, where in some cases well over a metre of snow is forecast, and the Pyrenees, where up to 80cm is expected, or up to 50cm in Andorra.
