First Ski Area Opening in Pyrenees For 2017-18

First Ski Area Opening in Pyrenees For 2017-18

Published : 10-Nov-2017 09:02

The first ski area to open in the Pyrenees for the new ski season has announced it will start running its lifts tomorrow, Saturday 11th November.

Porte Puymorens in the French Pyrenees reported its first pre-season snowfall back in mid-September and first turned on its snowmaking machines on 26th October but it seems to be the heavy snowfall in the Pyrenees last weekend that have led to the decision to open early.

The centre, which will also be one of the first non-glacier ski resorts south of Scvandinavia in the Alps to open, and only the second in France after Tignes, will open its 2km long Vignole easy piste between 10am and 3pm with a special low priced lift ticket of 10 Euros. The run offers 246m of vertical and is served by a triple chairlift.

The resort will be open for the same period on Sunday 12th November.

It's one of a number of resorts opening early for winter 17-18 this weekend, including Cortina in Italy, Verbier in Switzerland and about a dozen ski areas in Canada and the USA
